The watershed i.e. The hydrological unit is considered as more efficient and appropriate unit for project planning and implementation for natural resource management programme as the water resources and topographical feature of land are the prime consideration while delineating a watershed.
The watershed forms a primary unit in Soil Conservation Works. Western Ghats Development, Hill Area Development, National Watershed Development, DANIDA assisted Comprehensive Watershed Programmes in Wind and Water Eroded areas in Southern Tamil Nadu.
The Pudukkottai District Soil Watershed Atlas is prepared which has the Soil boundaries as per the local soil series name from Soil Survey Reports.
