Kumbeswara Temple, Kumbakonam



Kumbeswarar Temple is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at the center of the Tamilnadu town Kumbakonam, India.

Kumbeswara Temple enjoys the distinction of being the oldest Shiva Temple. The presiding deity and the goddess of this temple are Lord Kumbeswara and Sri Mangalambigai respectively. The temple complex also incorporates a shrine consecrated to Adi Vinayaka or Lord Ganesha.

The Mahamaham Festival is celebrated with great pomp and grandeur in Kumbeswara Temple which attracts lakhs of devotees from all corners of the world.

Every year during the months of April and May, the image of Lord Kumbeswara is brought out of the temple and taken out in a procession. This festival is celebrated for ten days at a stretch.
