As Indian equity markets crash in tune with global peers big business groups are facing heavy losses in terms of market capitalisation.

In last 9 months both Reliance group shares combined reported a loss of 6,52,909 crore rupees (as per Sensex close on 10th October 2008). Anil Ambani group share's market value decreased by 3,33,540 crore rupees and Mukesh Ambani group lost 3,19,369 crore in just 9 months due to world economic crisis.

Reliance Industries alone lost 2,46,131 in market cap when it fell 52.57% to 1527.60 on Friday from it's all time high of 3220.85.

Reliance Communications lost 1,19,210 crore rupees in 2008 slipping to 238.50 from it's all time high of 821.55 (70.97%).

ICICI Bank in the third position loosing 1,17,281 crore (74.66%). Bharti Airtel (82,237 crore), NTPC (98,451 crore), ONGC (96,240 crore), Unitech (73,913 crore), Bhel (74,389 crore), SAIL (74,161 crore), SBI(58,527 crore) are other major loosers in terms of market capitalisation.

In terms of percentage HDIL is the major looser which lost 93.39% this year falling from an all time high of 1395.90 to just 92.20 rupees per share. Orbit Coporation lost 90.68%, Aban Offshore 79.37% and Yes Bank lost 72.93%.
