Production: Ameer
Direction: Subramaniam Siva
Star-casts: Ameer, Madhumitha, Nirmala Periasamy, Snegan and others.
Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja

His previous films can be marked as an excellent piece of work in the history of Tamil cinema. Unfortunately, the same auteur fails to maintain his standard by remaking a Hollywood film.

Yeah! Ameer's 'Yogi' is a remake of 'Tsotsi' – an internationally acclaimed film which won more than dozen of famous awards.

So, how about Ameer's performance? A filmmaker doesn’t feel acting has a new task. Of course, Ameer does a splendid job over the performance, but stumbles down on many occasions by exceeding his limits.

The film is about obdurate rowdy Yogi (Ameer) living in the dangerous slums of Chennai. Although, he roams around with bunch of his own guys, none amongst them knows the real identity of Yogi.

On a night, where Yogi and Co are in for a looting task in hotel, they are chased by cops. With no options left, Yogi breaks open into a car and drives it away to a long distance. Later, he finds a baby on the back seat.

Incisively, this unexpected event turns his life and transforms him completely. Possibly it's a puzzling situation for he has to choose his destiny.

As mentioned earlier, Ameer excels on few parts like the sequences where he dances for Rajnikanth's 'Oru Koodai Sunlight' from 'Sivaji'. Well in other situations like playing with snake, he top-notches with remarkable show. Madhumitha deserves special mention for her decent job while lyric writer Snegan is so amateurish. Vincent Ashokan is spotted in clichéd role of a baddie.

Musical score by Yuvan Shankar is okay, but he keeps delivering the same tunes at many parts of the film. Cinematography is perfect.

The biggest flaw in this film is a very lengthy screenplay (2.40hrs) and a long duration. The flashback sequence is so terrible and though Ameer may come up with his justification saying 'Reality really bites', it cannot be the right term…

A Loving Mother  16 Jan 10, 05:44am
i couldn't watch even half of the movie. too much of violence shown on babies and children. i wish india had a DEPARTMENT OF CHILD SAFTEY, which does not allow such scenes to be shot. I wonder how the baby 's parents had allowed the baby for shooting. Especially " the scene where its shown, as if ants are feeding on the baby " was too much. Even though its not true and its just a movie, such scenes would make it uneasy for any mother to continue to watch this movie!!! I wish all the best to the hardworkers on this movie, please continue your good work, but it would be great if you could kindly avoid showing such heartthrobbing violence on children on screen.

Rework or Remake can be made in a better way by not copying every frame scene by scene.

See the film, TSOTSI. great one. but Ameer is a thief who stolen / duplicated TSOTSI without any proper permission , and claims as a great director. BS to Ameer.
