Sony to cut 8,000 jobs and shut plants

Japanese electronics major Sony Corp on Tuesday announced a plan to eliminate 8,000 jobs worldwide to cope with global economic downturn.

Sony Corporation, headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, Japan is one of the leading manufacturers of electronics, video, communications, video game consoles, and information technology products. Sony is among the Worldwide Top 20 Semiconductor Sales Leaders.

Sony will stop new investments, stop outsource production and shut down unprofitable business to save $1 billion in another two years. Sony also planning to shut down some plants.
