Big Mosque, Chennai

 

The Big Mosque or Wallajah Mosque is situated at Walajah Road in Triplicane. It is built in 1795 by the Wallajah family in memory of the Nawab. The Prince of Arcot is closely associated with this mosque at present also.

The mosque is built of grey granite. No Steel or wood is used in its construction. This is one of the most beautiful shrine in Chennai and is one of the important Muslim pilgrimage sites in the south.

The Mosque has two minarets at the front. Medieval architecture is clearly visible in the construction of this great mosque. This mosque is one of the most attractive one in India and is one of the historical monumets of Chennai.
