Kadal is the upcoming Maniratnam film starring Gautham Karthik and Samantha in the leading roles. Kadal is written by Maniratnam and Jeyamohan and is produced by Maniratnam under the banner Madras Talkies.

A R Rahman is the music director, while Rajiv Menon is the cinematographer. Sreekar Prasad handles editing. Actor Arjun Sarja also plays an important role in this movie. Arvind Swamy, who was the hero in two of the Maniratnam hits, is appearing in an important role.

Lakshmi Manchu, daughter of Telugu actor Mohan Babu also debutes in this film. Pasupathy, Lal and Thambi Ramaiah play other leading roles.

Maniratnam starts shooting for Kadal at Manapad, a beautiful location in Southern Tamilnadu. Yesteryear romantic hero Karthick's son Gautham Karthik plays the protogonist in this flick.

Kadal is a bi-lingual movie, made both in Tamil and Telugu.
