Production: Kalanidhi Maaran, Nemikchand Jhabak

Direction: Sooraj

Star-casts: Dhanush, Hansika Motwani, Manisha Koirala, Vivek, Aashish Vidyarthi and others

Music: Manisharma

The remake of Superstar Rajnikanth's yesteryear 'Mappillai' features Dhanush and Hansika Motwani in lead roles while Manisha Koirala plays the role that was enacted by Sri Vidya in original version.

Story:

Saravanan (Dhanush) remains as a troublemaker in his hometown. Unable to bear his upheavals, his parents send him to Chennai to stay with his uncle. Over here, he comes across a beautiful rich girl Gayathri (Hansika Motwani) and manages to make her fall in love with him. She is the daughter of billionaire tycoon Rajeshwari (Manisha Koraila). Assuming that he is a good obedient chap, she accepts her for the marriage. But sooner, his true identity is revealed and the clash takes place between Saravanan and Rajeshwari.

Story, Screenplay, Dialogues and Direction:

Sooraj managed to deliver some hit movies in the past with commercial ingredients. Having chosen a full-fledged commercial entertainer for the remake, he has committed blunder by just adapting the same theme, Just check out for the original version that had Rajnikanth, Sri Priya and Amala in lead roles. Their performance was stunning and it was a power-packed drama. But this one looks too artificial as none of the actors are able to perform a good show. 30minutes into the film, we are set with heavy boredom. By the time story reaches second half.

Performance

Dhanush looks too unapt for the kind of character. Having acted in a film like Aadukalam, he isnt supposed to choose such scripts. On the pars, Hansika Motwani is too amateurish with her performance. She isnt able to emote in a proper way or even dance well. To be precise, she even lacks the ability to exhibit her oomph factors. Its best if she sticks to magazine posters. Manisha Koraila has lost her charm and she is a mere disappointment. Only convincing point in the film is Viveks performance and he cracks a big laughter-riot keep us engaged at many moments. Aashish Vidyarthi sleepwalks through the role of a baddie.

Technical department:

Sorry to say, none of the technical crew does a good job. Musical score by Manisharma is as disappointing as none of the songs are impressive. The remix version of 'Ennoda Raasi' is a spoiler and choreography is below average. Cinematography is okay while editing isnt worth appreciating.

Plus:

Only Plus of the movie is Vivek's performance and he strives to keep the film's momentum moving at right pace.

Minus:

Almost every aspect both narrative and technical aspect is below average.

On the whole, Mappillai isn't worth watchable film.

Verdict: Very poor
