Software giant Microsoft unveils the successor of Vista operating system named Windows 7. It is expected to ship the new Windows 7 by mid of 2009.

Microsoft’s Windows Vista didn’t succeed due to high resource requirements, nagging screens, compatibility problems with old programs and overall slow performance. Some corporate customers even downgraded to Windows XP.

This reflected even in Microsoft’s last quarter results. Windows unit reported 4 percent decline in revenue against 23 percent gain in Office software sales.

So in Windows 7, Microsoft attempts to fix a number of problems with Vista like high resource usage and nagging screen.

The design of Windows 7 will make it for easier use, quick accessing of main tasks, easy switching between windows and files, more internet integration, gadget integration to Windows Explorer etc

The company also said that it was planning to introduce a Web-based version of its Office programs like Word, Excel and Access.
