After keeping the giant oil tanker for around two months pirates received their ransom money but the whole thing became a disaster at the end.

Somalian pirates hijacked the Saudi oil tanker Sirius Star on November 15th and demanded a ransom of Rs 120 crore to release the giant tanker.

At the time of hijack Sirius Star was carrying 20 lakh barrels of oil worth more than 480 crore Indian rupees.

The supertanker, owned by Vela International Marine Ltd. was the largest ship ever hijacked by pirates, which comes under the very large crude carrier (VLCC) category.

Finally the Sirius Star owner agreed to pay a ransom of Rs 17 core rupees and by Friday a small aircraft dropped this amount on to the ship.

But when the pirates tried to escape with the ransom money their small boat capsized and five pirates drowned.

Body of one pirate who drowned during the incident washed ashore with $153,000 in cash on a beach near Xarardheere.

It is still unknown about the incidents happened after they received the money. CNN today reported that other pirate groups fired at them to get a percentage of the ransom money and in that unexpected move they turned the boat back to the tanker and that quick move capsized their small boat.

Anyway all the 20 crews of Sirius Star are safe and luckily the firing between pirate groups didn't damage the giant oil tanker which was carrying 2 million barrels of oil.
