Pokkisham : Cheran and Padmapriya

Here comes good news for Tamilians who never get tired seeing love stories. Director-turned-actor Cheran who specializes in yesteryear love films is all set to release his ninth film Pokkisham.

Thavamai Thavamirundhu success pair Cheran and Padmapriya continues in Pokkisham in the lead roles.

Pokkisham means treasure in Tamil and the tag line reads Nee Enakku Ezhuthiya Kathal Kadithangal, the love stories written by you assuming that the letters written by a lover is a treasure.

70% of the film happens in flashback in 1970s. This story of lost love is between a Hindu boy, Cheran who is an engineer working in Kolkata and a Muslim girl, Padmapriya a student of Tamil literature in Nagore.

1970s Kolkatta is recreated by Vairabalan and his art crews.

Sabesh-Murali joins hands with Cheran for the third time after Thavamaai Thavamirundh. The lyrics are penned by Yugabharathi.

One of the songs of the film, Nila... sung by Vijay Yesudas and Chinmayi, is considered to be the highlight of the film having three full songs and seven bit songs.

Padmapriya plays the role of Nadira in the film. Cheran first offered the role to Priya Mani but she rejected the offer. It has made much news in Kollywood. Cheran has complained earlier that Priyamani hasn’t taken his call.

Rajesh Yadav cranks the camera.Pokkisham is produced by Hithesh Jabhak.

After this film, Cheran is expected make a sequel to his film Autograph.

Cheran has always been a natural story teller with a reputation for directing culturally strong films. So it is with great anticipation that people are waiting for his latest film Pokkisham.

The movie is slated for a May end release.
