Ponner Sankar is a film based on Tamilnadu CM Kalaigner M. Karunanidhi's historical novel Ponner Sankar. Ponner Sankar is the story of two brave warrior brothers who lived centuries ago.

Prashanth will don the dual roles of Ponner and Sankar. Prashanth's father Thyagarajan will produce and direct this legendary film. A R Rahman composes the music, while a large cast is in line of the movie, including Ponvannan, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Sneha, Sathyaraj, Manorama, Vijayakumar, Ambika, Riyaz Khan, Khushboo, Seetha, Napoleon, and Rajkiran..

The two brothers Ponner and Sankar lived in the Kongu Nadu (present day Coimbatore, Erode, Karur, and parts of Tiruchi and Madurai districts). They are worshipped as god by Kongu Vella Gounders even today.

Huge sets had been erected for the shooting of the movie at Valluvar Kottam in Chennai. Movie was launched here with much fanfare. Kalaigar Karunanidhi himself inaugurated the movie by switching on the camera on stage.

Ponner Sankar is a big budget movie, well supported by excellent cast and crew and technical perfection. Ponner Sankar is expected to reach screens soon.
