Ashokavanam is the tentative title of a forthcoming Tamil language drama film being directed, written and produced by Mani Ratnam, set to be released in 2009.

The movie stars Vikram, Aishwarya Rai and Prithviraj in the lead roles. It is simultaneously being made in Hindi as Raavan with a slightly different cast.

The film is based on the epic Ramayana and Aishwarya is donning the role of Seetha. After a few delays, the filming finally began on October 28, 2008 in Cochin, Kerala. It is currently 60% complete and is currently filming in the last schedule.

While details of the films are closely guarded and pictures from the film set are yet to be revealed there have been numerous reports and speculations on the casting of both the films.
