Potramarai Kulam is the sacred pond inside the Madurai Meenakshi temple. The Golden Lotus tank is used by devotees to take bath before visiting temple.
According to legend, Lord Siva promised a stork that no fish or marine animal will grow in this pond. So there are no marine animals in this Golden Lotus tank. According to Tamil legends, the new literature works worth was judged by this tank. The works which are worth attention will not sink into the water and those which are not worth are sunk into the tank.
