Tamil cinema, also known as Kollywood, is the Tamil-language film industry based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It is one of the largest film industries in India and produces movies in the Tamil language. The history of Tamil cinema dates back to the early 20th century when the first silent film was made in 1916.

Over the years, Tamil cinema has produced a number of critically acclaimed and commercially successful films. Some of the major movies in Tamil cinema history include:
