Forest Department



Tamil Nadu Forest department is the custodian of 22,865 sq. kms. of forest land in the state of Tamil Nadu.

Various schemes and programmes of Government are aimed at restoring the degraded forest and expanding forests outside the Reserve Forest area.

The principal aim is maintenance of environmental stability and restoration of ecological balance through conservation, upgradation and increase in the forest cover. Derivation of direct economic benefits from the forests has been subordinated to this principal aim.
